In this tutorial you will learn how to MANUALLY install PHPBB3 onto a REMOTE server with cPanel.

read more………………………………..

This video demonstrates installation on a namecheap.com hosted web space, but if you have another hosting provider that provides cpanel this will almost certainly work for you as well.

If you want the easy approach, use the Fantastico method demonstrated in other tutorial videos. This tutorial is for people who want to really understand how to install PHPBB manually (it only takes 10 minutes).

The namecheap.com “basic” space used in this tutorial costs less than $4/month. So, in the time that it takes to follow this tutorial and only $4/month you can have your own fully functioning PHPBB bulletin board/forum complete with content management system on your website.

I got everything right but what do I put for the former board? My site is thelegendofzeldaDOT0lxDOTnet
I have a forum directory inside the same directory as my webpages. Do I put the files of phpBB3 inside the forum directory, or in a folder named phpBB3? Help!

You only have cPanel if your host provides it. Your username and password will have been set up when you contracted with your host. So, ask your host.

???
Do you mean that you are on namecheap and that you don’t have a subdomains entry in cpanel?

elmosher2fight on 13 March, 2008 at 10:10 am #

i can’t manga my sub.domain y we have the same using the same host ?

alexwestconsulting on 14 March, 2008 at 6:58 pm #

An error like this is almost always one of two things:
1) You have incorrectly typed your db info in, you have typed the right info but in the wrong fields, or you have copied and pasted with some extra whitespace that must not be included
2) The database is NOT on localhost. Some hosts have the database on another server, so check the database and make sure it doesn’t say that it’s on another host.

elmosher2fight on 16 March, 2008 at 10:58 am #

hello alex when i get to database connection it gives me an error

Could not connect to the database, see error message below.
Access denied for user ‘a9179925_phpbb’@'localhost’ (using password: YES)

alexwestconsulting on 20 March, 2008 at 9:20 pm #

If your host doesnt have cPanel there is nothing you can do to get it. The control panel that your host has will do anything that cPanel does though.

Very nice tutorial, i got my own empty website but there is no cPanel on it l-dorp[dot]nl/cpanel wont work, do i need to download cpanel and instal it with a ftp program?

alexwestconsulting on 22 March, 2008 at 3:37 pm #

I need more info than that. At what point does it fail? DO you get all the way through the installation? Does it work BEFORE you try to make a subdomain?

If you give me temp ftp access I will install it for you (just change the password first, so you can go back to it after i’m done), or give me more info so I can possibly find a solution for you.

josh12313 on 24 March, 2008 at 12:31 pm #

thanks for your reply i have deleted the files many times and tryed reinstalling it, but still no luck.

alexwestconsulting on 27 March, 2008 at 8:27 am #

i need more info than that.

I can say that obviously something has gone terribly wrong and so it is usually a better idea to start over (after deleting the db and files/folders) than trying to fix a broken installation.
