***REVISION!!!
“Site Name” setting at 3:15 should be set to match your company or domain name. This value is used when members of your site receive emails from from your site, including welcome emails. You can also set this manually at any time after installation in Administration:
Site - Global Configuration - Site Settings - Server
Also - go to Site - Global Configuration - Site Settings - Site and configure the Meta Description and Meta Tags right away as it takes weeks for google to index these values. Meta Description is the summary shown on google results, and Meta Tags are keywords to help your site get indexed.

You might have to manually configure the FTP file system access layer after install if you have errors when trying to install templates. Tutorial here:

If you run into any problems, I suggest watching my tutorial on how to install Joomla on a FREE 000webhost website; If you can install it there, you can install it anywhere:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=BZboCsGb6zQ

Or, if your provider has Fantastico (or similar auto-installer), you can auto-install Joomla, but you might not be getting Joomla 1.5 that way. Tutorial here:

sorry been so long to get back to you, but you probably figured it out by now…

if not, this error message is NOT a good sign and so you would be best served by deleting all the joomla files and the db and starting over. Do NOT try to save this installation.

Alex you saved me hours of frustration. Please keep the Joomla videos coming. I am creating my first Joomla website and your videos have helped me tremendously.

alexwestconsulting on 8 September, 2008 at 5:53 am #

sorry i took so long to respond, I could have saved you some frustration as DNS looked to be the problem, especially considering namecheap does a poor job of explaining the process/timeline of setup to new clients.

For screen capture I use Camtasia Studio, which is what most people use these days. Camtasia Studio 4 and 5 are quite different, where 5 produces better results but has a sharper learning curve and requires more post editing. Cam Stud 4 is better at “follow the mouse” recording.

Jonnydutch on 8 September, 2008 at 1:31 pm #

I figured out the problem. The DNS change hadn’t come into effect yet. Thanks again for the videos. Would you mind telling me what you use for the screen capture.

Awesome tutorial. Couldn’t be better. 5/5

BTW, for some users (I included) the HOST name is “remotemysqlhost” instead of “localhost”.

Just wanted to say that since that little detail got me stuck during my installation.

olim22 on 7 October, 2008 at 3:41 pm #

Nice tutorials.. what would be great would be a tutorial on how to layout your webpage, how to plan menus, categories and all that.

alexwestconsulting on 8 October, 2008 at 4:44 pm #

no problem. Make sure you take the extra step right away of of going to
site > global configuration
and changing the “Site Name” to be in line with what you want your website to be called as users will receive registrataion emails that say they are from site cited here
also, change the Metadata Settings here right away because it will take weeks for search engines to index this
next step should be finding a template you like and to turn on SEF (search engine friendly URLs)

BeeRad277 on 10 October, 2008 at 1:54 am #
